We strive to instill the creative spirit
in both young and old.
The primary purpose of The JunkYard is to engage the efforts of local artists and art students in the construction of their own museum. Once open, the exhibits will feature large climbable structures that can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages. This tactile nature of the new museum will be a useful learning tool for kids of all ages, as well as a method for creating an emotional link with adults and their city.
In addition, we have defined the following goals to support our purpose:
- The skills of students: Instill in each student a sense of pride that they are contributing to a truly unique work of public art.
- Climbing structures: Promote a healthy and active lifestyle, develop logical reasoning and problem solving skills, engage the climbers in social interaction and team building exercises.
- Educational programs: Teach each visitor not to focus on the end result, but to focus on the creative process that goes into making a work of art, piece of sporting equipment, or musical instrument—this will be the primary directive in our art, sports, and music programs.
By teaching our visitors how to unlock their inner artist, we are then teaching them to think outside of the box when approaching challenges in math and science; as well as any other subject they tackle academically or personally.
